Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is suing Planned Parenthood for “trafficking” minors out of the state so they can undergo abortions without obtaining parental consent.
The legal action has been in the works for several years, and its goal is to drive Planned Parenthood out of Missouri on account of its outright refusal to comply with the state’s laws.
In addition to trafficking minors, Bailey cited numerous healthcare violations and their failure to report medical complications experienced by patients to authorities. One of the violations cited was an admission by staff that they had been “using moldy abortion equipment on women for months.”
Abortion was banned in Missouri in June 2022 when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, except for medical emergencies. State law also prohibits assisting minors in getting abortions out of state without the consent of their parents.
In a message announcing the suit on X, Bailey wrote: “This is the beginning of the end for Planned Parenthood in the State of Missouri.” He is pursuing an injunction that orders Planned Parenthood to stop helping minors get abortions.
“Violating the ‘deeply rooted’ right of parents and the laws of Missouri, Planned Parenthood is inducing minors into making life-changing — and life-ending — decisions without parental consent,” the suit notes.
The suit claims Planned Parenthood takes students out of school with help from altered notes from doctors, brings them across state lines so they can kill their unborn babies, and then returns them in order to skirt state laws. Many times, they are brought to nearby Kansas, where abortion is still legal until around 22 weeks of gestation.
An undercover video by Project Veritas recently revealed that the Planned Parenthood in Kansas City, Missouri, has regularly been helping young girls cross state lines to get abortions.
For the investigation, a journalist posed as an older uncle seeking an abortion for a 13-year-old girl. He explained that they needed to do it quickly and secretly, without getting consent from the girl’s parents.
The managing director of the Planned Parenthood location, Lashauna, admitted to the undercover journalist that they plan abortions for minors, transport them, pay for the abortion and arrange hotels for them. When asked how often they do this, she laughed and said they set up abortions and hotels for minors “every day.”
The lawsuit says that it wants to ensure “the fundamental right of parents not to have their kids trafficked, without their knowledge or consent, across state lines for the purpose of inducing abortion.”
The Attorney General has also expressed concerns that Planned Parenthood has been abandoning its legal duty to report child sexual abuse. Referring to the Project Veritas report, the suit noted: “Planned Parenthood by state statute is a mandatory reporter for any sexual offenses against children. And yet in the video, an agent of Planned Parenthood is committed to concealing the fact that a 13-year-old who cannot legally consent to sexual conduct has experienced sexual abuse.”
Bailey has called on state lawmakers to permanently defund Planned Parenthood. Last week, the Republican-controlled Missouri House gave initial approval to a bill that would stop state Medicaid funding from flowing to the abortion provider, even for non-abortion services. The bill must undergo another round of voting before it can potentially move to the Senate.
The sponsor of the bill, Rep. Cody Smith, said: “When you do business with an entity like a Planned Parenthood, you’re ultimately subsidizing those abortion services, even if they are in other states.”
