A shocking report has revealed that a health authority in Canada’s British Columbia (BC) province has been promoting euthanasia using a slideshow that it is supposedly sending through emails to healthy seniors’ groups.
According to the report, which was obtained by Will Potter from the Daily Mail, the PowerPoint slideshow was allegedly from Fraser Health Authority (FHA), a large healthcare region in a suburban area of Vancouver, BC.
The slideshow actively promotes euthanasia in information packets for pension packages for the elderly. It featured text such as “expressions of wanting to die.” It also said euthanasia could be used to “promote a sense of control,” along with slides claiming that customers could die by euthanasia within one day.
According to data, the province has seen a significant 24 percent increase in medical assistance for dying, or MAID, Canada’s term for legal euthanasia and assisted suicide. Overall, at least 2,515 people died from MAID in 2022 in BC alone.
The email to seniors included information about a “track system” that detailed several options for MAID, those being when death is “reasonably foreseeable” or when it is “not reasonably foreseeable.”
For seniors whose death is “not reasonably foreseeable,” FHA said they will first be required to go through 90 days of assessments. Symptoms that fall under the option include chronic pain and fibromyalgia, but the Canadian government has announced plans to allow people to die under the practice solely due to mental illness by March 2024.
Meanwhile, the slideshow revealed that there is no waiting period for patients with terminal illnesses, with one slide even indicating that the process for euthanasia or assisted suicide can last as short as one day, provided that the patients file the proper request and undergo at least two assessments.
Details from a recent incident also suggest that the FHA has a history of targeting pro-life hospice societies.
On March 29, 2021, the Delta Hospice Society (DHS) was evicted from its two buildings after 35 years after the authority canceled the pro-life group’s lease. The eviction was allegedly due to DHS’s refusal to allow euthanasia at its palliative care facility.
FHA took both the Irene Thomas Hospice and the Supportive Care Centre without compensation for DHS’s assets, which had an estimated value of $9 million. (Related: Canada to become ASSISTED SUICIDE capital of the world.)
To date, DHS is forced to operate out of a small office. It still manages a store, The Hospice Cottage Charity Shoppe, which serves as the DHS’s main source of revenue.
Angelina Ireland, DHS’s president, recently warned, that pro-euthanasia lobbying groups are targeting Catholics.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government legalized euthanasia in 2016. Since then, recorded deaths have gone up under its MAID program.
There has also been a continued push to further expand who can qualify for doctor-assisted death.
The allowance of MAID for those diagnosed with mental illness came in 2021 with Bill C-7, which allowed both the terminally ill and the chronically ill to qualify for doctor-assisted death.
The mental illness expansion was previously slated to take effect in March.
But after resistance from pro-life groups, conservative politicians and other groups, the Liberals under Trudeau delayed the introduction of the full effect of Bill C-7 until 2024 via Bill C-39, which became law on March 9 this year.
Unless a new federal government gets elected in 2024, MAID laws will expand to those with mental illness.
The Conservative Party under leader Pierre Poilievre is against expanding MAID laws but has not released a statement if it would repeal all euthanasia laws.
