According to SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk, people shouldn’t be forced to take vaccines – a clear swipe at companies who axed employees for noncompliance with vaccine mandates.
He made this remark during a recent interview with former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson, reiterating that vaccines deserve “caution” and “scrutiny.” Musk touched on vaccines in the context of a potential repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 (CDA). Repeal of the CDA’s aforementioned statute would make tech platforms such as X, which Musk owns, liable for published content.
“That doesn’t mean that vaccines should not have any scrutiny. Of course, we should be making sure that the quality control is incredibly good, especially if we’re giving them to children and whatnot. And we shouldn’t force people to take vaccines,” he told Carlson.
Carlson responded by calling Musk’s statement “controversial.” The founder of the Tucker Carlson Network even joked that the liability for vaccine manufacturers is not likely to be repealed, drawing comparisons with the CDA’s Section 230.
The X owner also emphasized his opposition to vaccine mandates. “I believe in freedom; America’s supposed to be the land of liberty,” he said.
This mirrored Musk’s sentiment from December 2022. “If you scare people enough, they will demand removal of freedom. This is the path to tyranny,” he said at the time.
Almost a year later, he wrote that he would have ignored the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for private businesses. Fortunately, UnHerd wrote that “the order was ultimately struck down in court before enforcement began.”
“We would not have done so,” Musk said. “I would rather go to prison than fire good people who didn’t want to be jabbed.”
Musk previously admitted that he and his children received the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, but he noted that he was nearly hospitalized as a result of the third dose.
During his interview with Carlson, Musk also made several predictions ahead of Election Day on Nov. 5. He predicted that Democrats will try to repeal Section 230 if they win in November and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris – the Democratic presidential nominee – becomes the 47th chief executive.
Musk reiterated his support for former President Donald Trump, even though he and other Republicans have also endorsed the repeal of Section 230 as a way to rein in Big Tech power. Several commenters who watched the interview noted how the Tesla founder repeatedly told Carlson that he was “all in” for Trump. “My prediction is – if there’s another four years of a [Democratic] administration, they will legalize so many illegals that the next election there won’t be any swing states, and this will be a single-party country,” Musk said.
“In the hopefully unlikely event that [Trump] loses, there may be some vengeance on me,” Musk added, even joking that he could go to prison if Harris wins on Election Day.
